AFFORDABLE HOUSING

I support current and recent initiatives by the City of Northfield to develop more housing, build diverse housing types, and improving the access and equity of our city to all neighborhoods.

I support initiatives to improve access to first-time homebuyers and families, and if elected to City Council I will specifically lobby for the funding and expansion of the city’s First-Time Homebuyer Program:

“up to $25,000 in a zero interest, deferred loan that is payable when the homeowner sells or refinances the first mortgage. Amount of award is dependent on need and funds available.”

Below are other housing policy positions I hold:

• Smaller, single family starter homes. Physically designed as detached, big enough to live in, but small enough that most might upgrade when able to.

• Focus on homeownership vs. renting

  • Rentals are needed in any community, and by 2027 there will be several options available. Any remaining new developments approved by City Council should be smaller starter homes that are designed to be priced affordably.

• Prevent predatory developers from developing in Northfield. While I do not know of an example of this happening, the single family homes in Northfield should be built and owned for residents, not private equity firms.

• New developments should be designed as walkable neighborhoods, with small stores inside them.
