A Call To Action:

The City of Northfield and the Employers in Northfield need to join the MSP Partnership to inject capital investment into the Northwest Industrial Park:

My call to action is for the City of Northfield, our employers, colleges, and public schools to join economic development partnerships and programs so Northfield can attract capital and investment to our city and create jobs for our residents:

Potential options could be:

  • Increased partnerships with Northfield Hospitals & Clinics and Mayo Clinic, driving medical R&D and breakthroughs

  • Growing the footprint of electronics engineering and manufacturing

  • Medical device design and manufacturing firms

  • Food science and Agro-tech and production companies

  • Business and Finance sector growth

  • Paid Internships for college students

Where City Council comes in:

  • Pass policies directing the EDA and City Staff join the MSP Partnership

  • Direct Staff to use our new Federal Grant lobbying firm to specifically seek grants that will help employers grow in Northfield

  • Pass policies directing the EDA and City Staff to target and pursue prospective employers that pair with Northfield’s current workforce and industries that will bring a vertically stacked career growth opportunities ranging from entry level, certified technicians, salaried professionals, and senior management

  • Move forward with projects that finalize utility capacity expansion to the northwest industrial zone

  • Host stakeholder sessions with Northfield employers, the EDA, Northfield Chamber of Commerce, our Colleges, and High School

  • Ensure our Codes, Ordinances, and various permitting processes are updated to still comply with our Comprehensive Plan with a focus on ease-of-use for businesses and employers

  • Research ways to improve job placement programs for Northfield residents

  • Increase funding and availability of the First Time Home Buyer Loan Program currently offered by the City to attract and retain the next generation of working adults and families
