Helping Northfield thrive for current and future generations

Northfield is an amazing place. Our history, our pride in our community, our intellectual vitality, our beautiful downtown, our local businesses, the great schools and colleges, our parks and nature, and yes even our debates, make us something special. Close enough to the Twin Cities to be a part of greater Minnesota, yet far enough away to have our own unique identity. Northfield is a great place to live, work, learn, and visit.

When my wife and I were looking for a place to live and raise a family, many of these reasons are why we have called this place home for over ten years now. We love living and raising our children here, and I hope to play a role in helping keep Northfield special.

Our City Council and City Staff have done great work keeping our local government functioning, serving our city in many ways that we all benefit from. They have dedicated themselves to us as neighbors, and all projects and improvements have been in service to the residents of Northfield. Things have been good, but there are always opportunities for improvement. Having said that, having a vibrant city requires investment. Some residents have expressed their concerns over projects such as bike lanes, the ice arena, and the hospital, yet these assets are some of the reasons why we all love Northfield and call this place home. When deciding on a place to live, work, learn, and visit, most people look for characteristics such as how well a city is maintained, low crime, good schools, healthy local economy, and access to healthcare.

Of course, Northfield is not perfect. We need more affordable housing, increased diversity in our local economy and job market, and if those first two happen we can achieve a lower tax burden on residents. For these reasons, I have decided to make the focus on my campaign the following:

- Grow and diversify the job market and economy

- Support development of affordable housing

- Reduce the residential property tax rate

The last ten years in American politics has been hard on everyone. Civility has declined, division has increased, and in some case political unrest and violence has unfolded in our streets and communities. Through all of this, Northfield has prevailed as a city united in community. Local politics tends to be non-partisan, which is great for me as a life-long Independent. Proper government should be grounded in the will of the people, and then executed effectively, efficiently, and in sustainable and healthy ways that are within the financial realities of our citizens. My commitment to the residents of Northfield is to serve this community with honesty, integrity, critical analysis, collaboration, and partnership. I will listen to our community, collaborate with community leaders, and deliver on our goals and plans. This will be accomplished by adhering to our City Code, Charter, and budget. My campaign and political platform is not one of revolution; but rather one of steadiness, wisdom, analysis, strategy, and adherence to the American form of government. If this message resonates with you, I’d love your support in helping Northfield thrive for current and future generations.
